Let's reinstall basic airmanship

Recurrent training should be an important part in the life of a pilot but...

For many reasons such as overconfidence, complacency, laziness, we are skipping training and may start to misjudge our real proficiency and our capacities. What was true yesterday may not be accurate anymore....

I know : At this stage, you may say not me ! Are you sure ?

Here, there is no willingness to judge you or to play on such nasty trigger like guilt or fear to extract some bucks from your wallet.

However, as a CFI, an important part of my duties is to help my fellowship pilot to improve and maintain the highest level of safety for their operations. This requires  self assessment, identification of pitfalls and solutions : recurrent training.

I can help you  ;-)

Maybe you are not concerned. In this case: just think about the benefit of having an occasion to polish your skills.

We all need a "Debbie Downer" from time to time !

Modern aircrafts are very capable with their inboard automation, color map GPS and so on... But this is technology and  technology will never handle or anticipate an unsafe situation for you...

You are the PIC and  you may have to monitor and anticipate unfavorable environment.  In order to do so you should not be limited by poor flying techniques or lack of practice.

The solution:  you need to keep up practicing  your basic airmanship.

I develop a training based on a program from 1 to 3 days. The duration of the training and its content are tailored to fit your expectations.

Training to be efficient should include:

  • Aeronautical Decision Making,
  • Stick an rudder exercises,
  • Work on  scenario based training (SBT) (created from your flight experience).

We use material developed by the Federal Aviation Administration for training and safety purpose - you will find a lot of useful video on Youtube such as this one.

The AOPA  - Air Safety Institute is also developing valuable materials to support trainings.

Your training may be part of your WINGS Program. We encourage you to subscribe and participate to this great program aimed at supporting your proficiency and dedicated to safety.
